Berserk: The Complete 1997 TV Series is now priced at just $39 (previously $60) on Amazon. This marks the lowest cost this year for the Blu-ray version of one of the most acclaimed anime series of its time. Universally acknowledged as the finest anime adaptation of Kentaro Miura’s iconic manga, the 1997 series debuted on Blu-ray last spring and has remained a favored choice since then.

Berserk narrates the tale of Guts and his relentless fight against evil entities. A dark fantasy interwoven with stark violence, the anime series made some alterations from its source material, yet it was lauded for its treatment of the darker elements of Miura’s narrative. This is a limited-edition steelbook version of Berserk, encompassing all 25 episodes from the series in high-definition. Both Japanese and English dubs are available on the disc, and all extras from previous editions have been included.
A Crunchyroll-exclusive Steelbook Edition launched last fall, but it retails for $80, nearly double the current price of the standard edition.
Years after the original series ended, a fresh Berserk anime revisited the starting point. This trilogy of films from 2012-2013 wasn’t entirely as exceptional as the 1997 series, but it offered a more accurate adaptation. The stunning 2D visuals don’t always mesh well with the CGI animation, but overall it’s quite impressive. The Golden Age Arc: Memorial Edition repackages the remastered films into 13 episodes. Released on Blu-ray last summer, the Memorial Edition includes both English and Japanese dubs. You can add the reconstructed Golden Age Arc to your collection for $48 (was $70).
The 2016 Berserk anime is also available at the price of $41 (previously $70) on Blu-ray. Some devoted Berserk enthusiasts are critical of its frequent deviations from the manga, while others appreciate it for that very reason. There are certain visual inaccuracies and peculiarities in the animation, yet the series still possesses standout moments and is generally worth viewing.
If you’re interested in the original manga, the Deluxe Editions are the best choice. All 14 of these stunning hardcover collections are available at Amazon, with many priced down by $15-$20. Each volume encompasses three parts of Berserk. Collectively, the 14 hardcovers compile all of the trade paperbacks created by Miura before his passing in 2021. Berserk Volume 42, the initial paperback featuring no work from Miura, was released in March as a tribute to the series’ originator.
Berserk Deluxe Edition Volume 1 is available for $28.65 (was $50) on Amazon.
