Mortal Kombat 1 Developer Concluded with PS5 Fighter, Transitioning to Next Project 1

As anticipated, Mortal Kombat 1 creator NetherRealm Studios is progressing beyond its PS5 fighter.

When the team revealed the Complete Edition of the game at the beginning of the month, numerous fans speculated it was Game Over for any future DLC or expansions. This was despite series architect Ed Boon assuring that the title would receive “years of support”.

Now, about 20 months post-launch, the studio has verified what many believed: there will be balance adjustments and corrections going forward, but otherwise, the studio is finished with the game.

“We recognize this will be disheartening for fans, but our team at NetherRealm must redirect attention to the next venture in order to make it as excellent as possible,” the statement articulates.

The buzz is that it’s developing a new Injustice title, which seems overdue considering the last installment in the DC combat series debuted more than eight years ago. Personally, we believe NetherRealm Studios erred by launching Mortal Kombat 1 too soon after Mortal Kombat 11, as the demand simply wasn’t present.

However, while some fans are rather annoyed that the support for the latest fighter is concluding so promptly, others are expressing a more optimistic response, thanking the studio for its contributions and urging it to deliver top-notch results with whatever it unveils next.
