Report: Red Dead Redemption 2 Next-Gen Upgrade Could Launch On Xbox Later This Year

Before GTA 6?

Red Dead Redemption 2 remains an impressive visual feast on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. However, with the 30FPS frame rate limitation still in effect, we’ve always been eager for Rockstar to enhance the gameplay on the latest consoles. It appears that this might soon become a reality.

As reported by the team at GameReactor, Rockstar is developing several new console versions of Red Dead 2. Interestingly, it seems that a Nintendo Switch 2 edition has prompted the studio to revisit their 2018 masterpiece for a refresh – yet the outlet mentions that “it’s feasible that the next-gen update could arrive concurrently or somewhat later”.

The information we’ve quoted illustrates that the wording is quite ambiguous – and the source further states that “plans are subject to change”, particularly for Rockstar as they adjust to the postponement of their upcoming GTA 6. The team’s recent Red Dead Redemption port for other platforms was quite unexpected, so we anticipate a similar surprise here – if it happens at all.

With GTA 6 now slated for May 2026, we hope Rockstar might unveil this RDR 2 port before then, if development is truly underway. At this point, this remains a rumor and should likely be regarded as rather uncertain – we will have to observe what Rockstar has in store for their western saga in the forthcoming months.
