The Warbond has been dissolved

Helldivers 2 creator Arrowhead Studios has revealed it will not be collaborating with PlayStation for its upcoming title.
As per CEO Shams Jorjani’s statement on Discord, the multiplayer shooter has achieved such success that the studio can now fully finance its next project — and it appears this will likely be available on multiple platforms.
“Game 6 (our forthcoming project) will unfold as it is meant to, thanks to your support,” he said, as noted by Forbes. “The upcoming game is entirely funded by us, allowing us to make all the decisions.”
Jorjani further dismissed any notions of discord between Arrowhead and PlayStation: “Absolutely not. PlayStation has been fantastic. There would be no Helldivers without their support. We remain open to future collaborations with them. They prioritize developers and are excellent partners. I’m just stating facts.”
From Sony and PlayStation’s outlook, this news might sting a bit. Helldivers 2 has been Sony’s most successful live service title by a considerable margin — leading to speculations last year about a possible acquisition of Arrowhead.
Those speculations were quickly refuted, and now it seems the developer is truly equipped to pursue its own ambitions.
Do you think Sony has overlooked a significant opportunity here? What are your expectations for Arrowhead’s next release? Keep sharing your thoughts on the bugs down in the comments!

Robert (or Rob if you’re in a hurry) serves as an assistant editor at Push Square and has been an avid supporter of PlayStation since the 90s when Tekken 2 introduced him to the remarkable universe of video games. He still approaches fighting games with seriousness, but RPGs are truly his love. The Witcher, Persona, Dragon Quest, Mass Effect, Final Fantasy, Trails, Tales — he has experienced them all. Some might say a bit too much.
