Illumination from Darkness

Assassin’s Creed Shadows has proven to be a much-needed success for Ubisoft amid its business challenges, and this triumph has led the publisher to postpone other projects.
You may remember that Shadows itself faced significant delays past its initial November 2024 release date. It was first rescheduled to February 2025, only to be shifted again to March 20th — the date that ultimately remained.
According to all indications, this additional development period was undoubtedly beneficial, and having now enjoyed the rewards of releasing a well-received title, Ubisoft has decided to delay a series of unannounced projects that are currently under development.
This information comes from the company’s latest financial update, where Ubisoft is unexpectedly open about its strategies — although it refrains from elaborating on those unannounced titles.
“Following a comprehensive evaluation of its upcoming projects that took place from October to December, the Group opted to extend development time for some of its major productions to create optimal conditions for success,” the publisher clarifies.
“This decision has already improved the quality of Assassin’s Creed Shadows.”
With this approach, Ubisoft aims to achieve “substantial growth” over the next few fiscal years. The crucial takeaway is that it desires — and arguably requires — its biggest franchises to be as commercially successful as possible.
If internal delays contribute to realizing that ambition, then that seems to be the strategy.
In the meantime, regarding Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the company has confirmed earlier reports — namely that Shadows launched to become the second most successful in series history, only surpassed by Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
Do you believe these delays will benefit Ubisoft? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below.

He remains serious about fighting games, but RPGs are where his true interests lie. The Witcher, Persona, Dragon Quest, Mass Effect, Final Fantasy, Trails, Tales — he’s enjoyed them all. Perhaps a tad excessively, some might suggest.
