It’s always unfortunate to share news like this, but it must be reported – Microsoft has announced further job reductions today, affecting 3% of the workforce “throughout all tiers, teams, and regions,” as per a report by CNBC.
In their statement, Microsoft mentioned that these reductions would “ideally position the company for success in an evolving marketplace”:
“We are continuing to execute organizational adjustments essential to optimally position the company for success in an evolving marketplace.”
With over 200,000 employees currently, it’s projected that 3% will affect thousands of positions.
You may remember that job cuts were frequently reported last year at Xbox and elsewhere, including the closure of several studios. However, it is believed that today’s reductions are the largest single round since January 2023 when approximately 10,000 employees were let go by the company.
