Gun Interactive disengages
- by Ben Kerry
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre multiplayer experience, initially a launch title for Xbox Game Pass, is essentially being phased out this month as the studio, Gun Interactive, moves away from further development.
To clarify, the game will still be available for play and purchase for the foreseeable future, but the update in May will be the last, transitioning the game to peer-to-peer matchmaking. After the May update, it will migrate from official servers to player-hosted lobbies.
“The Texas Chain Saw Massacre will not receive any more upcoming content or support. This indicates that there will be no additional DLC, balance revisions, or bug remedies after our forthcoming May patch. However, we will implement a few more updates to facilitate the shift to peer-to-peer matchmaking.
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre will continue to be playable and will NOT be removed from digital storefronts. Our community team will keep engaging with our players as we celebrate The Texas Chain Saw Massacre with everyone who appreciates this game as much as we do.”
This may not be entirely unexpected, considering the studio’s past and the path of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre since it departed Xbox Game Pass. Gun Interactive had previously developed the now-defunct Friday The 13th Game, and the team also reduced the price of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre last year, shortly after it left the XGP service.
The Kentucky-based studio doesn’t seem ready to stop, though. They conclude this recent announcement by encouraging us to ‘STAY TUNED’ for what lies ahead from the team. Who’s placing bets on another beloved horror franchise adaptation from Gun Interactive?
