Naughty Dog’s sci-fi action-adventure game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, casts Tati Gabrielle as a bounty hunter landing on a doomed planet.

It wasn’t all cheers for the game’s reveal trailer, as it was met with significant backlash online, involving hateful remarks mostly targeting the lead character, Jordan A. Mun.

As part of a wider interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gabrielle shared her perceptions on the divergent responses following the game’s unveiling.

“There was plenty of adoration, but also lots of vitriol due to my gender, my racial identity, my haircut, many issues I didn’t initially acknowledge,” she explained, adding that she deliberately avoids the social media environment for this particular reason.

Gabrielle explained that Druckmann has been intensively training her, with previous experience in dealing with a comparable level of toxicity aimed at Laura Bailey for her portrayal of Abby in The Last of Us Part II.

Post encountering the adverse feedback, Gabrielle recalls Druckmann reassuring her: “Ignore it. Regardless, together, we’ll create something beautiful and praiseworthy.”

Gabrielle also discusses Intergalactic’s central theme of faith; the game’s storyline will contain elements of a fabricated religion along with various other manifestations of faith.

“The concept of faith is highly nuanced,” she admits. “You might automatically associate faith with religion, which is part of it, but there’s also faith in oneself, your environment, your community. Essentially, faith represents your beliefs, your aspirations. Despite sounding abstract, faith is something everyone experiences in their daily lives. What motivates you every morning?”

While Intergalactic has no established release date, it’s confirmed to be a PS5 exclusive.
