PS5 users can already access a version of Virtua Fighter 5 through the backward-compatible Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown. However, Sony’s console is gearing up for a second round with a refreshed edition of SEGA’s iconic fighter, Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O..
Many might recall this version launching on Steam earlier this year, boasting 4K graphics, enhanced textures, and additional features. All these upgrades will transition to the PS5, including rollback netcode and full crossplay functionality across all platforms.
“Since the release of Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O., we’ve acknowledged your requests for cross-platform compatibility through the official Virtua Fighter Discord and various other platforms,” stated the seasoned Virtua Fighter producer Seiji Aoki during a recent livestream.
“We, as the development team, aspire to provide gamers on all platforms the chance to experience Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O., hence we are delighted to share this news.”
He continued: “We plan to incorporate even more elements to ensure this is much more than just a basic port, which we will detail in upcoming updates.”
SEGA is fully committed to Virtua Fighter, and while work progresses on an ambitious new installment, they aim to broaden accessibility for the existing title. Unfortunately, a release date for this R.E.V.O. version hasn’t been announced, but we hope the wait won’t be too lengthy.
