Gearbox Software co-founder, CEO of Gearbox Entertainment, and renowned illusionist Randy Pitchford has stated that Borderlands 4 is currently in a superior state compared to any prior title in the series at a similar distance from its launch.

The release date of Borderlands 4 has been advanced to September 12, over a week ahead of its initial date of September 23, due to the developer indicating they were “cooking” and the game was already “fantastic.” Essentially, development has been progressing in a favorable manner and the game would have been ready sooner than anticipated.

During a recent PAX East panel, Randy Pitchford reiterated this sentiment. When asked about the current status of Borderlands 4, he remarked that the team is “on the offense” and feels highly confident regarding the forthcoming looter shooter.

“You know, sometimes we’re just gripping tightly to the landing, right?” he explained about their earlier projects. “We’ve got plenty of tasks ahead – we’re working extremely hard, but the momentum is remarkable. I believe we’ve never been in a better place this far from launch with Borderlands 4. I’m quite excited because I really need a game like this right now.”

In another segment of the panel, Pitchford mentioned that he was uncertain if Borderlands 4 would adopt the $80 price point like Mario Kart World at launch. He also assured that players could reach anything visible in the world, even if it’s “a mile away, up in the sky.”

Hold off judgment on Borderlands 4’s absence of a minimap just yet – Gearbox boss suggests using one would be “extremely confusing” in the FPS’ “big freaking world”
