Publisher requests fans to demonstrate their enthusiasm
With the Switch 2 on the horizon, various companies are already contemplating certain re-launches and enhancements to their current eShop offerings. It appears that FDG Entertainment, the publisher behind Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom for the Switch, is among them.
In a social media post yesterday, they reached out to “Switch 2 gamers” to ask if they would be interested in an update to the 2018 2D platformer that would support 120fps. The game already performs at a “smooth 60fps” on the Switch, but this enhancement could potentially double that!
FDG Entertainment: “Curious if there’ll be enough #NintendoSwitch2 users wanting a #MonsterBoyGame Update featuring 120fps. It currently runs at smooth 60fps. Please share your thoughts via likes/comments.”
As indicated, they are gathering feedback and welcome fans to share their opinions. It’s also important to note that the Xbox Series X and PS5 versions of the game have already received a complimentary 120fps update.
When Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom first launched on the Switch, it was awarded an “excellent” score of nine out of ten, being hailed as a “remarkable achievement” for its stunning visuals and captivating soundtrack, as well as doing justice to its spiritual ancestors.
“As long as you can understand that it remains quite an old-school experience at its core and that you will encounter some 8-bit era platforming challenges as a result, you’ll truly enjoy navigating this adventure for the 12-15 hours it takes to complete. It may not bear the name Wonder Boy, but it is indeed wonderful by essence.”
This title is also currently discounted in select regions, with savings of up to 75% off the usual price. Additionally, the Nintendo store indicates the current file size for the game is 5.7GB for both the Switch and Switch 2.
Another developer considering a 120fps upgrade is Shin’en Multimedia – the team behind Fast Fusion. In a recent conversation, they noted that 120fps support would not be available at launch but could possibly be implemented as a patch in the future.
So, would you be keen on a Switch 2 update for Monster Boy? Share your thoughts in the comments.
