Attention remains on “creating equipment for gamers”
- by Jim Norman
Over the past weekend, Nintendo officially initiated a lawsuit against accessory producer Genki following the Switch 2 “leak” during this year’s CES. We got a glimpse of Nintendo’s perspective from the initial court filings, and now, Genki has issued a statement affirming that the team is “taking it with utmost seriousness and collaborating with legal advisors to respond judiciously” (thanks to Eurogamer).
In the message on Twitter, Team Genki communicated that it “cannot provide detailed comments” on the issue, yet it is actively preparing to meet orders and display products at the upcoming PAX East event. “We take pride in our achievements, and we uphold the quality and uniqueness of our offerings,” the firm stated.
While the team committed to “share further updates when possible,” the primary focus still appears to be on “continuing to excel at what we do best: creating equipment for gamers.”
You can read the entire statement and the original tweet below:
A Message from the Genki Team
You may have noted that Nintendo has recently filed a lawsuit against us. We’re taking it seriously and are collaborating with legal counsel to respond prudently. What we can share is this: Genki has consistently been an independent entity focused on crafting innovative gaming accessories for the community we cherish. We take pride in our accomplishments and stand by the quality and uniqueness of our products.
While we cannot provide intricate details, we are proceeding with preparations to meet orders and unveil our latest products at PAX East this week.
We appreciate the tremendous support we’ve received thus far. We’ll share more as soon as we can, but for now, we remain focused on doing what we excel at: creating equipment for gamers.
—Team Genki
In Nintendo’s court filings, the company asserts that Genki violated its trademarks after allegedly “demonstrating and promoting unauthorized mockups and designs of the Nintendo Switch 2 and its accessories”. According to Nintendo, this was “engineered to exploit and capture the public’s excitement for the launch of Nintendo’s next-generation console”.
Should any updates on this situation arise, we’ll keep you informed.
