Exercise caution, however
A recent marketplace listing on AliExpress hints that the forthcoming Switch 2 Joy-Con may be modifiable; at least up to a certain point.
As pointed out by Stealth40k on Bluesky, a listing from Electronics-Dropshipping Store reveals that the side panels of both Joy-Con can be detached and swapped for various colours. The two available options include the typical blue and orange hues; one reflecting the color scheme of the Switch 2 itself, while the other reverses them (orange on the left, blue on the right).
While this is an intriguing idea, it’s important to note that Nintendo has not confirmed anything regarding customisation for the Joy-Con. Keeping that in mind, we wouldn’t recommend hurrying to purchase these – despite their low price – as detaching the side panels could potentially damage the Joy-Con and void the warranty.
Nonetheless, it appears that the panels can be easily pried off the Joy-Con and clicked back into place; there are no screws or any secure fasteners. It’s possible that Nintendo views this as a chance to implement customisation in a novel fashion – reminiscent of the New 3DS.
However, it seems unlikely that Nintendo would miss an opportunity to sell variations of the Joy-Con 2 at full retail price. This is certainly an exciting prospect, but we would advise exercising caution for the time being.
Do you believe this is a practical method to personalise your Joy-Con 2, or would you prefer Nintendo to solely release limited editions at regular prices? Share your thoughts in the comments.
