Greetings, everyone! Welcome back to another segment of Box Art Brawl.

Last week, we explored Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones for the GBA in honor of its arrival on Nintendo Switch Online. Wow, that was quite close! In the end, North America and Europe prevailed over Japan, garnering 51% of the votes, but really, this could have easily gone either way.

This week, we’ll dive into 1080° Avalanche for the GameCube. Launched in 2003, its Japanese counterpart dubbed 1080° Silverstorm swiftly followed in early 2004. It received fairly good reviews; however, similar to Wave Race, Nintendo chose to abandon the series following the GameCube due to mediocre sales.

This week brings us another showdown as North America and Europe face off against Japan once more. Let’s dive in!

Don’t forget to submit your votes in the poll below; but first, let’s examine the box art designs themselves.

The western artwork exemplifies the essence of extreme sports, featuring a snowboarder executing an impressive trick in the foreground, with the game’s stylized logo positioned above. It’s a striking piece that would certainly catch the eye on retail shelves.

We’re not sure if it’s just us, but we find the oddly sterile design really appealing. It’s extremely tidy and elegant, and the compact depiction of the snowboarder gliding across the upper section of the box is quite captivating.

A quick note: finding a high-resolution image of this box art was rather challenging, so some text may be difficult to read. The main text states:

“Treacherous Environments! The game that initiated the extreme sports genre returns in 1080° Silverstorm, a pulse-pounding, earth-shaking revival of winter excitement. Experience the ground tremble as you zoom down the slope swiftly enough to skin your face. The other competitors are tough, but your greatest adversary might just be the mountain.”

Radical.

Thank you for participating! We’ll catch you next time for another round of Box Art Brawl.
