It’s confirmed – GTA 6 now has a launch date, but Rockstar Games has stated that its anticipated open-world title will not be making its previously scheduled fall 2025 release timeframe.
Instead, GTA 6 is slated to debut on May 26, 2026. Rockstar shared the news today on its Twitter account, expressing regret that the new date is later than originally anticipated.
The announcement adds: “The enthusiasm and anticipation surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has genuinely moved our entire team. We appreciate your support and patience as we endeavor to complete the game.”
“With each title we’ve launched, our aim has always been to surpass your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto 6 is no exception. We hope you recognize that we require this additional time to ensure it meets the quality you expect and deserve.”
Rockstar concludes by stating, “We anticipate providing more details soon.”

Even without GTA 6, it was evident last year that 2025 would be a crowded year for game releases; nevertheless, many viewed the next Grand Theft Auto as the standout title.
In February, the CEO of Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two Interactive, Strauss Zelnick, mentioned “we feel really good” about the initial 2025 release, though he acknowledged that “there’s always a chance of delay.” Regrettably, that’s precisely what has transpired.
Interestingly, just this week, Borderlands 4 had its launch date advanced by 11 days, leading many to speculate that since Gearbox is also under Take-Two, perhaps this could help narrow down GTA 6’s release timing. Gearbox head Randy Pitchford quickly asserted that this was not the case, later reinforcing that he had no “insider information regarding any other game’s release.”
Here’s to hoping that GTA 6 will be worth the wait when it finally arrives. We can officially mark our calendars now – just over a year remains. Hang tight, everyone.
