Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown has exceeded 2 million players, according to a brief statement from Ubisoft. This announcement comes approximately 15 months following the game’s launch in January 2024, and Ubisoft seems to be hinting at a promising future for the franchise.

“Well over 2M players at this point,” Ubisoft posted on the official X account for Prince of Persia. “You’ve revived the legend. The Prince has returned, and trust us—he’s just getting started.”

Speculation about Ubisoft’s future plans for The Prince of Persia remains open. The company disbanded the development team for The Lost Crown in October 2024 due to lower-than-anticipated sales figures, though those involved were reassigned within Ubisoft rather than laid off. It is crucial to note that 2 million players do not equate to 2 million sales. The Lost Crown was included in Ubisoft+, Ubisoft’s subscription service, and was part of the PS Plus Extra and Premium offerings.

The Lost Crown was met with widespread acclaim from reviewers, including GameSpot’s Steve Watts, who referred to it as “so assured and meticulously crafted that this should be the definitive identity of Prince of Persia for the near future.” Ubisoft allegedly turned down proposals for a sequel to Lost Crown before the development team’s disbandment, although the company has never confirmed this.

In the meantime, The Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake is still in progress, reportedly on track for a release in 2026. Ubisoft initially announced this project in 2020, but it faced multiple delays, including an “indefinite delay in 2021, and total development was restarted in 2023. It resumed full production in June 2024, though Ubisoft has not shared any updates on the project since then.
