Update []:
Immediately following our publication of this article, Gearbox confirmed that Borderlands 4 is indeed set for release on September 12th. As noted further below, a fresh State of Play will be streaming tomorrow, providing additional details about the forthcoming Borderlands 3 sequel.
Original Story: Perhaps a bit sooner than originally planned, Gearbox’s Randy Pitchford has revealed that the team is advancing the launch date of Borderlands 4 by several weeks. Yes, the anticipated sequel will now debut for Xbox Series X|S on September 12th, a few weeks ahead of its previous late-September timeline.
We mention “a bit sooner than originally planned,” because Pitchford’s social media announcement has since disappeared from his channel. Nonetheless, it has been captured by the quick Wario64, who has shared the video for everyone’s view:
Gearbox and 2K are expected to issue a formal announcement tomorrow, coinciding with a Borderlands 4-themed State of Play in collaboration with Sony. You can catch the livestream on April 30th at 2pm PT / 5pm ET / 10pm BST, showcasing over 20 minutes of new gameplay.
Since the game’s formal reveal last year, excitement for Borderlands 4 seems a bit subdued, but mid-September surely appears to be a favorable launch window. We’ll be tuning into tomorrow’s State of Play to see if Gearbox & 2K can further engage our interest!
