One was a Titanfall endeavor
Regrettably, we have additional updates regarding job reductions to share today, as a recent report from Bloomberg indicates that approximately 300-400 positions have been eliminated at EA, with around 100 of those at Respawn Entertainment.
Respawn has officially released a statement confirming the cancellation of two games that were in internal development, with Bloomberg noting that one of them was an extraction shooter situated in the Titanfall universe. Here’s a portion of Respawn’s announcement:
“As we refine our focus for the future, we have opted to withdraw from two early-stage incubation initiatives and implement targeted adjustments within teams across Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi.”
Notwithstanding this, Respawn asserts that Apex Legends will keep evolving and the upcoming installment of the Star Wars Jedi series intends to “elevate the standard once more for storytelling and gameplay.”
In the meantime, Bloomberg quoted an EA representative who stated that the company has “implemented specific changes within our structure that better align teams and allocate resources to foster future growth.”
Unfortunately, it appears that any prospects for a Titanfall 3 have been firmly extinguished – and the more pressing concern is that we sincerely hope everyone impacted by today’s layoffs finds new opportunities swiftly.
