Ubisoft has discreetly enhanced another one of its titles, as Far Cry 4 is now capable of running at 60fps on PS5. Interestingly, the Xbox 360 rendition of Far Cry 4 was able to function at 60fps on Xbox Series X|S through the FPS Boost feature, although it was eventually turned off. This month, Far Cry 4 will also join Game Pass, possibly indicating an upcoming update.
Previously, Far Cry 4 was restricted to 30fps on PS5, and this graphical enhancement (via Reddit) is in line with Ubisoft’s recent trend of revisiting older titles. Just earlier this week, Splinter Cell: Blacklist received an update for Steam achievements and not long ago, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate was updated with a 60fps patch on Xbox Series X|S and PS5.
In addition to this update, the Far Cry franchise will be receiving increased attention now that Ubisoft has undergone a significant organizational change. The company has announced the creation of a new subsidiary dedicated specifically to its Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six series, with Tencent holding a minority stake after investing $1.25 billion.
The most recent installment in the Far Cry series was Far Cry 6, released in 2021, and recent speculation suggests that Ubisoft aims to revitalize the franchise’s open-world approach for its next two titles. One of these anticipated games, an extraction-style multiplayer shooter nicknamed Project Maverick, is reportedly being revamped, while development on Operation Blackbird, supposedly Far Cry 7, continues.
