New leaders on the horizon
- by Jim Norman
Inti Creates has officially launched the first significant update for the Castlevania-themed character-swapping adventure Gal Guardians: Servants of the Dark.
This update elevates the game to ver. 1.2.1 (a minor follow-up was included alongside the “major” update) and introduces several new features, including a new ‘Arena’ event, additional boss battles, an in-game achievement system exclusively for Switch, and more.
The comprehensive patch notes have been posted on the game’s official site, and we’ve compiled them for your review below:
Gal Guardians: Servants of the Dark Ver. 1.2.1 (28th Apr 2025)

Ver.1.2.0
- A new event called “Arena” has been introduced.
- New boss encounters, “Baphomet” and “Hell Infernoctavius”, have been added to the Arena.
- An in-game achievement framework has been implemented. *Nintendo Switch only
- Inventory items can now be secured.
- A fresh icon has been introduced for better sub-weapon identification.
- A display of available demon lord bones in each area is now visible on the map.
- Adjustments have been made to certain enemies for better balance.
- Selected gameplay areas have been refined for balance.
We enjoyed playing Servants of the Dark when it was released on Switch earlier this year, describing it as “a fantastic experience” despite its lack of innovation in our review.
