Brilliant concept, slick
If you unfortunately missed your chance to pre-order a Switch 2, you’re likely feeling rather downcast at this time. We understand.
In Japan, eager buyers had to participate in a lottery system to gain the chance to make their pre-orders. We know that renowned developer Masahiro Sakurai successfully secured one, but recent social media updates indicate that Nintendo Direct narrator Yuichi Nakamura wasn’t among the fortunate winners (thanks, Automaton).
Understandably, Nakamura was feeling quite dejected about this and humorously declared he would sever all connections with those who won the lottery. To alleviate the mood, Sakurai devised a clever strategy and remarked, “I must swiftly shine the light that will erase his memories!”. He subsequently shared an image of his solution that we think will be quite recognized by film enthusiasts.
For those who are unaware of Sakurai’s reference, it pertains to the 1997 sci-fi comedy Men in Black, featuring Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones. In this film, the titular ‘Men in Black’ have the ability to erase memories from witnesses using a ‘Neuralyzer’ that emits a bright flash.
Sakurai’s ‘Neuralyzer’ appears to be a standard karaoke microphone, but Nakamura’s blank stare significantly enhances the joke, providing a comedic touch to what has certainly been a challenging period for Nintendo admirers. It is safe to say we anticipate Nakamura will find additional chances to secure his own Switch 2 soon.
Did you manage to get a Switch 2 pre-order, or does the notion of a mind-erasing Neuralyzer sound appealing right now? Share your thoughts in the comments.
