Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders have officially commenced in the US last week, with enthusiasts across the Atlantic now on the lookout for the next batch of stock. Retailers such as Walmart, Best Buy, Target, and GameStop have all launched their initial offerings; however, things may seem a bit subdued. Nevertheless, there is still optimism on the horizon — the UK is now in its fourth week of pre-orders, and bundles continue to appear sporadically.

All attention is focused on Newegg, the only US retailer I’ve spotted that lists the Nintendo Switch 2 without releasing its pre-order stock yet. Meanwhile, the UK awaits new releases from Very and Argos, which have been the primary pre-order hubs so far, while promising signs are emerging from The Game Collection and Amazon recently.

I have been monitoring scarce stock for over five years now, starting back when the PS5 and Xbox Series X were nearly impossible to pre-order in 2020. Since then, I’ve covered prominent launches, keeping track of which retailers most frequently restock (and how to capitalize on those opportunities). This experience has equipped me with insights on where to look next and essential tips to secure that email confirmation at the end.

I began tracking popular pre-orders when the PS5 and Xbox Series X were first introduced and have followed everything from the PS Portal to 30th Anniversary limited edition releases since that time. I’ve gained insights into which retailers to monitor for new stock releases, predicting when those restocks might occur, and ensuring you secure your console on launch day.

What is the Nintendo Switch 2 release date?

The Nintendo Switch 2 is officially set to hit retail shelves on June 5, with several retailers promising guaranteed delivery on the release day. However, as some stock has already sold out, certain stores are extending their shipping timelines.

Is pre-ordering Nintendo Switch 2 advisable?

If you missed the initial wave of Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders, you might be questioning the excitement. The Switch 2 is a more advanced handheld, designed to run new exclusive titles (as well as the older Switch games) more efficiently in both handheld and docked modes, boasting several additional features as well.

Given the rapid sales of these devices, securing a pre-order promptly is wise if you aim to obtain a handheld on its release day. We remain uncertain about potential delivery times for direct purchases on launch day, as some retailers are still assuring that release window. However, stock is quite scarce at the moment, so joining the hunt is necessary.

If you anticipate ultimately upgrading to the Switch 2 but currently own a solid handheld and a backlog of games to complete, then pre-ordering might not be as pressing. Nevertheless, I would advise against waiting for a price reduction during the holidays, as Nintendo hardware tends to retain its value exceptionally well, and considering the tariff challenges ahead, we may not see any price cuts anytime soon.

Reseller listings for the Nintendo…

Switch 2 is currently being offered, with certain listings exceeding $800 for the handheld alone. With just over a month left for pre-orders (and availability on launch day), acquiring from these fraudulent sources is simply not worth it.

These are largely the same individuals (along with their numerous bots) who snatched your pre-order from trusted retailers like Best Buy or Walmart. Allowing them to resell it to you at an inflated price will only complicate future releases as more fraudsters join in.

On a positive note…

GameStop has announced that the Nintendo Switch 2 is “coming soon.”

Instead of merely stating it’s unavailable or out of stock, GameStop offers a glimmer of hope with this announcement. While it may refer to launch day, the optimists among us will certainly be monitoring this retailer closely over the next few weeks.

Walmart has removed the Nintendo Switch 2 listings

This is quite peculiar.

Typically, Walmart maintains its listings even after running out of stock, as seen with the PS5, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection, and PS Portal over the years. Yet, the retailer has taken down its listings for both the Nintendo Switch 2 handheld and the Mario Kart World bundle.

I would be astonished if Walmart is stepping back from this competition. They had a substantial supply when they launched their initial wave of pre-orders last week. This is certainly one to watch closely.

A new week begins

Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders have now entered their second week in the US, while the UK is already in its fourth week of early availability.

Things are relatively quiet at the moment, but there are some new updates on retailer websites worth noting. I’m checking stock across all the major stores and will provide you with all my tips and strategies for making the most out of any drops you encounter, right here.
