Doug Bowser: There’s no designated time you “must release video games”
- by Liam Doolan
Nintendo has declared that the Switch 2 is set to launch on 5th June 2025, but what led to this particular month being chosen?
In a recent interview with NPR, Doug Bowser, president of Nintendo of America, shared insights into this choice—emphasizing that there isn’t a strict timeline for when video games or, in this instance, a console should be released, and that both the hardware and games were “ready to go”.
Additionally, this period marks the beginning of summer, making a device like the Switch 2 ideal for both home use and travel. Here’s what he expressed:
Doug Bowser: “We believe that the year is continuous, and there aren’t designated timelines for launching video games. Thus, as we evaluated our games and the prepared hardware, we concluded that June was excellent timing. It marks the onset of summer, and certainly, with a Nintendo Switch 2, you possess a device that functions as both a home gaming console and a portable device for on-the-go enjoyment. Hence, it’s an optimal gaming gadget for summer excursions.”
Prior to Nintendo’s announcement of the Switch 2, various speculations hinted that the new system might adhere to a similar launch timeline as the original Switch, potentially debuting in the early months of the year.
With June now confirmed as the official release date, it provides Nintendo ample opportunity to restock in preparation for the holiday season of 2025, which should boost sales during the system’s initial year.
