La Quimera is a narrative-driven sci-fi FPS that bears several visual and gameplay resemblances to Crysis, crafted by former Metro developers at a studio known as Reburn. This seemingly promising combination has encountered challenges, as the game—initially slated for release today—has experienced a last-minute postponement following some extremely negative reviews.

“We sincerely apologize for the unexpected deferment in bringing La Quimera to you, our dedicated fans and supporters,” states Reburn co-founder and CEO Dmytro Lymar in a message shared on the game’s Discord and distributed to the press.

“Our dedicated team at Reburn has been putting in considerable effort into the game,” Lymar continues, “but being our debut as an independent studio has presented us with unexpected obstacles. We are striving to resolve these issues as swiftly as we can while also managing the challenges posed by the circumstances here in Ukraine.”

The announcement does not provide details regarding the cause or duration of the delay, but it notably coincided with the game’s review embargo lifting. Only two publications reviewed La Quimera—XboxEra and Wccftech—and both gave it a score of 4/10, criticizing its lackluster storytelling and excessively brief duration. One review even mentioned that the game feels “incomplete” and that it should have been released as an early access title.

Reburn was previously known as 4A Games Ukraine until February of this year. The studio was founded in 2014 when the main 4A headquarters relocated to Malta due to rising tensions between Russia and Ukraine, leaving the remaining developers to establish an independent entity.

Since then, 4A Games Ukraine has worked as a contractor on Metro Exodus, but it is not directly associated with the larger 4A studio still developing Metro.

This complex history likely contributes to why the studio recently rebranded as Reburn alongside the unveiling of La Quimera earlier this year.

In a blog entry released earlier this year discussing the relationship between the two studios, 4A expressed wishes for “every success” to Reburn.

Here’s to hoping that the studio can leverage its legacy and La Quimera’s stunning graphics to transform this peculiar narrative into a triumphant success.
