When Nintendo Switch 2 preorders began on April 24, many eager shoppers likely found themselves browsing Amazon, puzzled about why the largest online retailer in the USA appeared to overlook a new Nintendo device. However, this absence was a predictable extension of a situation that has been developing over the last year. Currently, Amazon does not stock first-party Nintendo items, meaning users will only discover third-party games and accessories related to the forthcoming console on Amazon’s platform.
No Switch 2 preorders at Amazon? No shock there.
If you consistently purchase first-party Nintendo Switch titles, the nonappearance of the Switch 2 on Amazon’s US site likely did not come as a surprise. To clarify, this discussion is focusing on Amazon in the US. Amazon UK, for example, still offers Nintendo goods, including the Switch 2.
Last spring, Amazon “sold out” of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door preorders. However, when the retailer did not restock the remastered version of the GameCube classic, it became apparent that more was amiss. From that moment, Nintendo’s 2024 and 2025 Switch titles were absent from Amazon. This included several highly-anticipated releases: Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD, Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, Mario & Luigi: Brothership, Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition, Super Mario Party Jamboree,
Donkey Kong Country Returns HD and Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition. Moreover, Amazon has ceased restocking previous Nintendo Switch exclusives that were once accessible. Additionally, you cannot purchase digital games, eShop vouchers, or Switch Online memberships from Amazon.
Amazon has also overlooked hardware launches, including the Hyrule Edition Switch Lite, Black Friday 2024 console packages, and this year’s Super Mario Bros. Wonder Switch OLED console bundle. The stock of Switch Pro and Joy-Con Controller supplies are exhausted, and official accessories like Nintendo Alarmo debuted without making it onto Amazon.
Initially, Amazon wasn’t alone in the lack of first-party Nintendo titles. Walmart’s online platform faced a similar trend—though physical stores still offered Nintendo games during launch periods. Later in the year, Walmart began listing Nintendo exclusives on their website just prior to a title’s release. This year, Walmart and Nintendo have resumed their standard practices, leading to a more familiar shopping experience.
Switch 2 and all its Nintendo games and accessories are available at Walmart.
Why did Amazon cease to stock first-party Nintendo items?

Basically, the answer is unclear, but Amazon presumably wants to offer Nintendo items. Neither party has explained why their retail relationship ended, but there’s speculation. Both Amazon and Walmart were notably affected by Nintendo’s stock issues last year. Historically, both companies have frequently provided discounts on Nintendo games and accessories beyond official sales. Discounts of $10 on first-party titles became quite common. Since Walmart’s stance shifted, most first-party games are now sold through third-party sellers.
Currently, you can discover the upcoming 2024 Nintendo titles on Amazon; however, they predominantly appear as third-party listings. A variety of region-free Nintendo games can be found on Woot, an Amazon-owned discount retailer, often offered with a $10 markdown on launch day. This trend began after Amazon halted the sale of Nintendo titles, warranting further observation as the Switch 2 launches on June 5.
Amazon will continue to stock licensed Nintendo items
The only Nintendo products unavailable on Amazon—shipped and sold directly—are consoles, games, and accessories produced by Nintendo. Besides the Switch 2 console and Mario Kart World bundle, such exclusions cover accessories like the new Pro Controller, Joy-Con 2, official carrying cases, Switch 2 Camera, and Amiibo.
Listings for Switch 2-exclusive items will keep appearing, though exclusively from other manufacturers. For example, Amazon recently featured Hori’s officially licensed Piranha Plant Switch 2 Camera (currently out of stock) and “exclusive” titles like Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut (by Sega).
This distinction is important to explain the ongoing listings for Lego Super Mario sets and Little Buddy plushies on Amazon. Although these items are created in collaboration with Nintendo, they are not directly manufactured by the company.
are not made available by Nintendo. Amazon’s “unavailable” Nintendo offerings are strictly within the gaming sector.
Editor’s Note: As both Amazon and Nintendo have not addressed the matter, we remain uncertain about when the retailer will stock first-party Nintendo hardware and games again. However, as of April 25, we have no indication that circumstances will alter soon, particularly since it has been a year since Amazon ceased selling Nintendo first-party titles.

Nintendo Switch 2 Controllers on Amazon
The range of Switch 2-compatible controllers available on Amazon is extensive (in the hundreds, possibly thousands), but we’re focusing on two particularly impressive alternatives here. 8BitDo’s Ultimate 2 Bluetooth Controller for Switch debuted earlier this month. This outstanding pro-style controller features four additional customizable buttons, adjustable trigger locks, TMR electromagnetic analog sticks (superior to Hall Effect), three custom profiles, and various internal adjustment options. It should seamlessly connect to Switch 2 through Bluetooth from the get-go, and there’s a chance the included USB-C dongle will support 2.4GHz Wireless as well.
The Switch 2 Pro Controller has two remappable rear buttons, but as noted above, 8BitDo’s Ultimate 2 encompasses numerous extra features. Notably, it is also $15 less expensive at its retail price, but Amazon is currently providing a 10% discount at the time of this writing.
The alternative controller is an intriguing choice for those who prefer a different shape than Nintendo’s Joy-Con Controllers. GameSir’s G8 Plus is a Bluetooth controller that supports the Nintendo Switch or iOS/Android devices with screen measurements up to 8.5 inches. Since the Switch 2 has a 7.9-inch display, this pro-style controller should work seamlessly with Nintendo’s latest console.

microSD Express Cards at Amazon

The Switch 2 strictly accommodates the Express format, known for its high speeds and elevated costs. Moreover, this being a nascent technology means that there are limited choices currently available. Amazon is usually a great source for bargains on storage products, but the microSD Express Cards at Amazon have yet to see significant discounts.
- Lexar 1TB Play Pro microSD Express Card — $200 | Currently out of stock
