Bethesda Partners Directly With PlayStation On Strange DOOM: The Dark Ages Trailer

What’s the deal with Xbox players, huh?

This afternoon, we’ve been presented with an exciting new DOOM: The Dark Ages trailer as Bethesda intensifies its promotional activities ahead of next month’s launch. Typically, this would be a common occurrence, right? Well, you might assume that, but when you actually view the trailer, things get somewhat peculiar.

Id Software’s Hugo Martin begins the video by directly addressing PS5 owners. “Hello everyone in Sony land,” Martin starts, before guiding audiences through DOOM’s newly introduced ‘Cosmic Realm’ location showcased in The Dark Ages. At no point in the video is Microsoft or Xbox mentioned… at all.

The game director from id Software wraps up the trailer by stating that the team “wants to offer something special for Sony fans.”

“There’s so much more to honestly share, but we wanted to provide the Sony fans something unique as we approach launch. We can’t wait to share this experience with you […] it plays incredibly on the PlayStation 5, and of course, the PlayStation 5 Pro.”

It appears, from this trailer and a related email we received, that Bethesda has collaborated closely with PlayStation on this – which feels a bit strange for a title primarily associated with Xbox. We’ve just elaborated on how the team’s new multiplatform approach is starting to come together — especially for the games themselves — but Microsoft’s marketing may require some enhancement to ensure Xbox fans feel prioritized.

What are your thoughts on this unusual DOOM trailer? Share your opinions below.
