The 2024 film Deadpool and Wolverine emerged as an enormous success, centered on the collaboration of the two main characters. Despite leading a band of misfits in the Void, this experience may represent the closest Deadpool genuinely comes to being part of a team. Ryan Reynolds, who portrays the Merc With a Mouth, states that joining groups like the Avengers or X-Men would signify “the end” for the character.

In fact, Deadpool’s ambition to become an Avenger serves as a vital element of the Deadpool and Wolverine narrative, although it appears that this aspiration may not be realized, even with Wade Wilson saving the universe.

“If Deadpool becomes an Avenger or an X-Man, we’ve reached the end. That’s his wish fulfillment, and you can’t grant him that,” Reynolds shares in an interview with Time, where he also mentions he is working on a new project featuring an “ensemble.”

“I’m currently crafting a little something that I’d describe as an ensemble,” Reynolds confides to Time. “Yet, I appreciate that [Deadpool] is usually on his own.”

Reynolds appears to suggest that his upcoming ensemble project could be another Deadpool tale, perhaps revisiting familiar faces from Deadpool and Wolverine. This eclectic group features recently rediscovered characters from previous Fox films, such as Jennifer Garner’s Elektra, Dafne Keene’s Laura Kinney/X-23, Wesley Snipes’ Blade, and Channing Tatum’s Gambit, who is set to appear in the forthcoming Avengers: Doomsday.

It remains uncertain if Deadpool himself, whom Reynolds claims functions better as a “supporting character” in his present storyline, will show up in Doomsday. The extensive five-hour livestream announcing various cast members, including Tatum’s Gambit, did not reveal the complete roster of characters set to appear in the film.
