In the inaugural developer vlog for Subnautica 2, lead designer Anthony Gallego reiterates that the sequel is on schedule to launch in early access sometime later this year. Although details remain limited, it’s established that players can explore the sunken realms of its enigmatic extraterrestrial environment alongside up to three companions in a four-player cooperative mode that supports crossplay for PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.
“Our whole team feels that Subnautica 2 is evolving into our grandest and most daring Subnautica adventure ever, and we eagerly anticipate your plunge into it,” Gallego states. “We have incorporated all our insights from previous titles and funneled them into Subnautica 2.”
To bring this game to fruition, Gallego mentions that Unknown Worlds has employed “seasoned veterans of the Subnautica saga” while also including “new talent.”
He notes that the early access phase will allow players to experience the game while it is still under construction, introducing “new vehicles, craftable items, diverse biomes, and massive leviathans.”

Perhaps the most significant piece of news from the developer vlog is Gallego inviting players to share their thoughts on what they would like to see in Subnautica 2 through its social channels.
Gallego encourages all gamers, whether they plan to join the early access or not, to express, “What do you want to experience in Subnautica 2?” He directs them to the game’s official Discord and other social media outlets.
