Nintendo has confirmed

Concerns have been expressed regarding the new wireless GameCube controller’s compatibility with “other” titles on the Switch 2. In light of this, we contacted Nintendo to clarify the details.
This controller has been primarily crafted for the GameCube classics collection, which is linked to the Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership tier, acting as an “optional” method to experience these nostalgic games. However, should you wish to utilize this gamepad with other titles on the platform, you might encounter some “challenges,” yet it is still said to maintain compatibility.
We also inquired whether the triggers on this wireless controller are analogue, but we haven’t received a response regarding that matter.
Nintendo Life: Could you confirm whether the new Switch GameCube controller will function with the original Switch and if it will be usable with titles beyond the Nintendo GameCube Classic games app?
Nintendo: The Nintendo GameCube controller is intended for the Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics collection and serves as an optional method for engaging with those games. As it lacks certain buttons and features available on other controllers compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2 system, there could be some complications when playing additional titles. The Nintendo GameCube controller is exclusively designed for the Nintendo Switch 2 and is not usable with the original Nintendo Switch.
As stated by Nintendo, this controller will exclusively work with the Switch 2 and will not be functional with the original system. Thankfully, wired GameCube controllers can still be connected to the first system using the GameCube Controller Adapter. Nintendo’s official site confirms this adapter’s compatibility with the Switch 2 as well.
Furthermore, Nintendo is making various controllers compatible for the future – including the original Joy-Con and Pro Controller (even for “Switch 2 exclusive” titles), though not all aspects and features may function correctly. Additional details can be found in our previous coverage on Nintendo Life.
