Inflicting the agony

If you’ve overlooked it, the cherished cult classic shooter Painkiller will be launching a fresh installment later this year, specifically for PS5.

A recent trailer has been unveiled, showcasing some of the weaponry you’ll wield to combat the demonic foes while attempting to escape purgatory.

Among these, there are iconic weapons that will delight longtime fans; the eponymous painkiller is back, naturally, equipped with its spinning blades capable of latching onto foes and environmental objects.

Additionally, we have the stakegun, which propels large bolts into adversaries and can even secure them to walls. It also functions as a grenade launcher in its alternate mode, mirroring features from the original game.

Returning as well are the shotgun and SMG which, aside from their conventional uses, can freeze and ignite opponents, respectively.

The trailer showcases the rocket launcher (which also includes a chaingun), the hand cannon, and the electrodriver, which fires shurikens that bounce off surfaces and can create electrical chains.

It appears to be an incredible experience, and alongside DOOM: The Dark Ages, 2025 may turn out to be an excellent year for intense first-person action.
