Hello everyone – welcome to yet another episode of Box Art Brawl!

Previously, we examined Survival Kids for the Game Boy Color to commemorate the new Switch 2 launch from the publisher Konami. Ultimately, while North America’s edition is certainly appealing, the variants from Europe and Japan decisively claimed victory, garnering 71% of the votes.

This time, we are focusing on the original Pikmin for the GameCube. Yes, we are aware that we’ve never tackled this before! Crazy… Launched in 2001, the game received acclaim for its innovative concept, though the strict time constraints deterred some players. Nevertheless, it initiated a flourishing franchise that continues to thrive to this day.

This round, North America and Europe join forces to challenge Japan in another round of Duel. So sound your whistle, gather your Pikmin, and let’s begin voting.

Please remember to participate in the poll below; but first, let’s take a look at the box art designs themselves.

North America / Europe

This cover design is a classic, isn’t it? It perfectly captures the essence of Pikmin’s gameplay. It features Captain Olimar throwing his Pikmin towards a massive Bulborb, while others appear to be fleeing in terror. This encapsulates the core experience of Pikmin! Are there truly any Pikmin adversaries as recognizable as the Bulborb? We think not.

Japan

The design from Japan, akin to many similar first-party titles from that era, adopts a more abstract style. It features the three main Pikmin – blue, yellow, and red – prominently positioned in the center. The background radiates a yellowish-orange hue with a captivating texture, while flowers fill some of the empty areas. We appreciate the logo design, and that charming ‘raised from seed’ subtitle at the bottom is delightful in its simplicity.

Thank you for casting your votes! We look forward to seeing you next time for another installment of Box Art Brawl.
