“It’s been an enormous achievement”

In the initial months of 2025, Atomfall became a significant point of discussion regarding its Xbox Game Pass debut – an abundance of promotions and detailed content were evident as the release date neared. This culminated in a ‘tremendous success’ for the title earlier this month, and it appears this has also greatly benefited Microsoft.

In a recent discussion with gamesindustry.biz, Rebellion’s CEO Jason Kingsley shared insights on the game’s triumph – regarding both the development team and the Xbox Game Pass launch from Microsoft. Here’s a notable quote from that interview:

“It’s been an enormous achievement […] Microsoft has been an incredible ally to collaborate with, they’ve truly engaged in supporting us. They applied their expertise and immense resources to our modest project, and it’s performed exceptionally well for them, so it’s a win-win for both sides.”

The CEO further elaborated on how Game Pass and the discussions it generates have contributed to the game’s broader success. Kingsley mentions that “players then share with their friends on social media, ‘I discovered this game on Game Pass, I really liked it, you should try it'” – resulting in increased players from premium sales alongside those enjoying the game on XGP.

“At least, that’s our hypothesis – we don’t yet have the data for that […] one of the major obstacles for a company like ours is visibility. Game Pass has facilitated substantial exposure for our game.”

Overall, it appears that Atomfall’s partnership with Xbox Game Pass has yielded positive results for both Rebellion and Microsoft – which is certainly pleasing to hear.
