Xbox leader Phil Spencer intends to continue his support for Nintendo for the duration of the Nintendo Switch 2 lifecycle.

The news of Xbox releasing games on alternative platforms drew significant attention last year with a major wave of launches that included titles such as Sea of Thieves and Hi there-Fi Rush on the PS5, as well as Pentiment and Grounded available on both PS5 and Nintendo Switch. Additional titles like Forza Horizon 5 and Indiana Jones are also on the horizon.

However, Xbox has actually been collaborating with Nintendo for some time.

Minecraft launched on Switch shortly after its initial release, while Microsoft-published indie hits like Cuphead and Ori and the Blind Forest have been making their way to the platform as well. Furthermore, Banjo Kazooie was featured in Super Smash Bros. alongside Minecraft Steve and costumes for other Xbox franchises like Doom, Fallout, and Elder Scrolls.

With the Nintendo Switch 2 now on the horizon, Xbox leader Phil Spencer has expressed his commitment to continuing this collaboration. Spencer told Variety, “We’ve been supporting Switch 1, I want to support Switch 2.” He added, “We see it as a unique opportunity for us to engage with players who may not be on PC or Xbox. It allows us to continue expanding our community of fans who care about our franchises, and that is vital for us as we aim to invest in our games.”

Spencer referred to Nintendo as “an excellent partner” and mentioned, “I firmly believe in what Nintendo represents within this industry, and our ongoing support for them is essential. Receiving their support for our franchises is a significant aspect of our future.”

While he didn’t offer specifics on which titles might transition to Switch 2 (even though Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 is already confirmed), it would be disappointing if existing games on or coming to PS5 do not make the leap. And perhaps we might see Master Chief in the new Smash Bros. game.
