The unconventional vampire thriller, Sinners, is just one week away from premiering in theaters. Thanks to early media screenings, the film has received outstanding reviews from critics.

Sinners, helmed by Black Panther director Ryan Coogler, has achieved a remarkable 100% Rotten Tomatoes rating based on 37 reviews at the time of this writing. Linda Marric from HeyUGuys described Sinners as “A film of stunning audacity,” while BJ Colangelo from Fangoria proclaimed, “Sinners stands as Coogler’s masterpiece… Not only does it rank as one of the best horror films of the year, it’s among the finest films, period.”

Numerous critics are praising Coogler, who has long been entrenched in the Marvel universe, for his successful horror debut. “Ryan Coogler steps into the horror genre and succeeds brilliantly with Sinners,” noted Eric Goldman from IGN Movies, while Andrew J. Salazar from Discussing Film echoed the sentiment, stating, “Sinners is Ryan Coogler’s most daring work to date, offering a fresh perspective on vampire horror narratives.”

Others have expressed admiration for the film’s genuine themes of division and racial identity woven throughout the vampire tale. “Sinners masterfully depicts Black existence in the harsh and impoverished Jim Crow-era South while showcasing a vibrant cultural backdrop filled with music,” remarked Julian Roman from MovieWeb. Similarly, Brandon Lewis from Geek Vibes Nation described Sinners as a “striking masterpiece” that “challenges the confines of Black identity to forge a new path while honoring those laid down for survival.”

Set in the 1930s in the deep South of the United States during the Jim Crow era, Sinners stars Michael B. Jordan as twin brothers Smoke and Stack, who return to their hometown in an attempt to restart their disrupted lives. However, upon their return, they discover that their former home has been overtaken by a greater evil. The film also features Hailee Steinfeld from Gorgeous Grit, Jack O’Connell from Skins, and Wunmi Mosaku from Passenger.

The movie is crafted by Creed director Coogler. Additionally, Sinners boasts an original score from Ludwig Göransson.

Sinners will open in theaters on April 18. For more, check out our compilation of the top vampire films, or stay updated with upcoming horror films headed your way.
