The production company behind Youth is reinventing a chilling nuclear war narrative.

According to Radio Times, Warp Films is determined to adapt Threads into a television series. The original film, aired on BBC Two in 1984, depicts a nuclear attack on the UK city of Sheffield (Warp Films will be based in Sheffield). It presents a stark portrayal of the assault and its aftermath, earning a notorious reputation among those who have viewed it. You can still watch it now on BBC iPlayer.

“Threads was, and continues to be, a brutally candid drama that imagines the catastrophic consequences of nuclear conflict on everyday individuals. This narrative perfectly fits our mission of delivering impactful, realistic stories that resonate deeply with audiences,” stated Mark Herbert, Warp Films’ founder and CEO.

“Reinventing this iconic film as a television drama presents us with a unique chance to examine its contemporary significance.”

Youth, on the other hand, has become Netflix’s biggest surprise success of the year thus far (despite not receiving a season 2). It delves into the aftermath of a young boy killing a female classmate, with all four episodes filmed in a single take. Stephen Graham and Owen Cooper lead the cast.

The series premiered on March 13 but has already made its way into the top 10 list of Netflix’s most-viewed English-language shows ever, currently holding the ninth spot. However, Netflix monitors viewership during the first 91 days after a film or series’ release.
