
Fortnite movie reports are “false”, says Epic boss
Myth Games chief Tim Sweeney has squashed rumors suggesting that a Fortnite film is the upcoming video game to receive a cinematic adaptation.
Sweeney was replying to a tweet from film industry insider Daniel “DanielRPK” Richtman, who had mentioned in a now-deleted post that while some studios had already turned down a Fortnite film, the recent success of video game adaptations like A Minecraft Movie and The Super Mario Bros. Movie indicated that a Fortnite film was likely to be “next”.
“You just know Fortnite is next,” Richtman stated in the deleted tweet. “There was already talk of a Fortnite film, but some studios passed on it. That’s obviously gonna change now.”
Sweeney countered the speculation with a straightforward “False”.
Although he didn’t clarify which particular aspect of the claim was incorrect, as of this writing, Sweeney has yet to reply to Richtman’s follow-up tweet (thanks, TheGamer).
Sweeney wouldn’t be faulted for contemplating it, especially since earlier today, we reported that the A Minecraft Movie has earned $301 million globally – which is £233 million – on its opening weekend. This marks the highest US domestic debut for any video game film adaptation ever, achieving $157 million (£121.5 million) during its opening weekend.
