Rise of the Ronin developer Team Ninja has “heartfelt apologies” for the “inconveniences” related to its Steam port.

In a short statement shared on X/Twitter, Team Ninja verified that they are “looking into the reported problems” with the game and is working on a patch to “address or enhance some of these issues,” which is expected to be released on Thursday, April 10.

Rise of the Ronin was released on Steam on March 11, 2025, and it currently holds a “mixed” user score, with just 57 percent of the 3,118 reviewers giving it a positive rating.

Similar to many other delayed PC ports, a large portion of the criticism is directed at the game’s “poor” optimization, which includes issues like enemies loading in for boss fights, absent NPCs, invisible barriers, and missing elements like ladders.

“I truly enjoy the gameplay, the combat, maybe the exploration (though it has its problems), but I can’t recommend this game with a clear conscience when it suffers from some of the worst optimization I’ve ever seen,” noted one player.

We are currently reviewing reported issues for the “Rise of the Ronin” Steam version.

We are working on a patch, which may also be released on 4/10 (Thu.), to correct or enhance these issues.

We sincerely apologize for any inconveniences you may have experienced.

“On top of that, they somehow managed to update the game to make it look AND perform worse in an attempt to quickly fix the performance issues, effectively ruining something I could at least enjoy before.”

“It’s unfortunate, the game seems promising, but the port is simply not worth any financial investment,” commented another. “Performance is dreadful, frame rates above 60 fps lead to issues and glitches, and the only way to achieve a frame rate near anything playable is to set many graphical settings to minimum, resulting in a very poor visual experience. I would love to play the game, but no one should be paying for a port in such a condition.”
