Release date remains the same
Nintendo has postponed pre-orders for the Switch 2 in the US as it assesses the potential impact of new tariffs from The Trump Administration.
According to The Verge, the anticipated release date for the Switch 2 remains the same, with the console scheduled to launch on June 5, 2025 as planned. However, there is currently no information on when pre-orders might go live. Previously, it was expected that customers would be able to place their pre-orders on April 9, 2025.
Here is the complete statement from Nintendo:
“Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9, 2025 in order to evaluate the possible impact of tariffs and changing market conditions. Nintendo will provide updates on the timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 is unchanged.“
Currently, the Switch 2 console is listed at $449.99 for the console alone and $499.99 for the bundle that includes Mario Kart World. There’s no indication that this will certainly change, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see a price adjustment given the current global economic situation.
The Trump Administration has imposed a 46% tariff on Vietnam, where the Nintendo Switch 2 console is produced, and a 24% tariff on Japan, where the physical cartridges for the Nintendo Switch 2 are made.
