According to a “major US retailer”
After a report from Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson earlier this week indicating that the Switch 2 would debut in June with a “3-phase” software strategy, there seems to be an additional update.
According to “internal communications and documents” shared with the same outlet by a “major US retailer”, Switch 2 inventory is expected to sell out on the same day that pre-orders commence:
Insider Gaming: “Retailers are anticipating that they will exhaust their pre-order stock for the Nintendo Switch 2 on day one, even though Nintendo reportedly has prepared a significant amount for launch. This information comes from internal communications and documents provided to Insider Gaming by a major US retailer, who predict they will deplete their Switch 2 inventory on the same day they initiate pre-orders due to a restricted unit allocation from Nintendo.”
As previously mentioned, earlier reports have suggested that Nintendo has been increasing stock levels in hopes of avoiding such an issue, but this latest claim states there appears to be “limited unit allocation”.
The same documents interestingly note that pre-orders at the US retailer will close on April 9, 2025 – “one week after” the Switch 2 launch.
This follows a now-removed Best Buy Canada blog post, asserting that Switch 2 pre-orders would begin on April 2, 2025 – the same day as the Switch 2 launch announcement.
Despite a “little confusion” regarding this, Henderson believes that pre-orders are “very likely” to go live “within a week of the Direct”.
