In a series of tight-knit connections, the recent teaser for Thunderbolts* mentions the MCU’s most iconic group of champions twice, just as the cast is gearing up for Avengers: Doomsday. With this next major Marvel crossover in motion, it seems as though the concluding film in Marvel Phase 5 is starting to offer us a bit more food for thought.

The 30-second teaser primarily repeats the same footage we have already seen, showcasing the eclectic team joining forces to confront Sentry, who has a tendency to make people vanish in a flash. The main command of the Avengers comes from Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, portrayed by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who describes Sentry as “more powerful” than every Avenger combined.

Mel, Valentina’s assistant played by Geraldine Viswanathan, contributes by stating, “The Avengers are gone,” implying that no one else will safeguard the world. Sebastian Stan as Bucky is edited in to counter her claim with a remark suggesting that the Thunderbolts will serve as the heroes in this scenario.

This follows shortly after it has been confirmed that several members of the Thunderbolts* cast will appear among the heroes in Avengers: Doomsday. Marvel held an hours-long livestream on March 26, 2025, disclosing the lineup for the studio’s forthcoming major team-up event.

Stan, Florence Pugh, Lewis Tan, Wyatt Russell, David Harbour, and Hannah John-Kamen are included in a roster alongside Patrick Stewart, Tom Hiddleston, Alan Cumming, Vanessa Kirby, and several others. It’s an impressive collection of talent.

The idea of the Thunderbolts transitioning into Avengers might not seem too outrageous by the movie’s conclusion. In fact, it appears they could potentially become integral to the initiative in some manner. We might even witness a character transformation from Sentry by the end!

Thunderbolts* debuts in theaters on May 2, 2025. Check out our article for The Fantastic Four: First Steps for more insights.
