Saints Row developer Volition closed its doors in 2023 after three decades, prompting many to question the future of the open-world crime series. While the destiny of the franchise remains uncertain, Saber Interactive’s founder Matthew Karch provided some insights regarding the series. He noted succinctly that the studio had become too pricey to sustain.
“The Saints Row team is no longer with us. They were excessively expensive for what they delivered,” Karch told Stephen Totilo for his GameFile newsletter, as reported by GamesRadar. “They lacked a clear vision of what they were creating. They had no proper direction. It couldn’t continue. So, who is going to finance them for the next title after such a failure?”
The latest installment in the Saints Row series was the reboot released in 2022. The game did not meet expected sales figures upon release, but Embracer’s CEO expressed his belief that the game would eventually generate revenue and serve as a “launching pad” for the series moving forward.
