Switch 2 GameCube controller in model, fans imagine
A new version of Nintendo’s legendary GameCube controller seems to be gaining popularity for the Switch 2, according to fans.
This information comes from a recent FCC submission for a Switch 2 controller that features a peculiarly positioned product label—similar to that on a GameCube controller.
The submission, associated with a Switch 2 accessory designated as BEE-021, aligns with several other Switch 2 components sharing the same BEE prefix, and does not seem to be a new Switch 2 Pro controller.
Findings revealed by Famiboards (thanks, Nintendo Life) point out that this model lacks NFC support—something found in the Switch 1 Pro controllers and Joy-Con—but does include wireless Bluetooth, which was a feature of previous Nintendo Switch Online controllers.
The implication, then, is that Nintendo may be getting ready to release a GameCube controller redesign similar to what it has done with other retro gamepads, like the N64.
Looking ahead, the rumored existence of this controller could suggest the possibility of GameCube support for Nintendo Switch Online… but let’s take it one step at a time.
Nintendo’s original GameCube controller and its distinctive Wavebird version are nearly two decades old, yet they remain beloved by many fans—indeed, these controllers continue to be a preferred choice for countless dedicated Super Smash Bros players.
Only a few weeks are left until Nintendo officially reveals its plans for the Switch 2 at the start of April. Could we witness the much-anticipated GameCube Switch Online support?
