The Room studio’s 80s-situation paranormal VR mystery Ghost City gets originate date
Fireproof Games – the team behind the haunting puzzle box journey The Room and its equally impressive sequels – has announced a launch date for its supernatural VR thriller Ghost Town. It is set to arrive on Meta Quest on April 24th, with a PCVR/PSVR2 release expected later this year.
Ghost Town, for those unfamiliar, transports players back to 1983, where they assume the role of ghost hunter Edith Penrose. Edith operates a successful paranormal investigation agency in London alongside her flatmate, and as Fireproof describes it, “she’s nearly up-to-date with her rent, and the spirits in her bathroom mirror have been less troublesome than usual.”
Unfortunately, Edith’s life takes a turn when her brother goes missing – leading her on a journey to uncover his fate, beginning on a secluded Scottish island in search of a gifted psychic, and later through London’s eerie underbelly.
The adventure unfolds across “vast navigable environments,” where players will engage with fully motion-captured figures, both living and deceased. “Explore a range of atmospheric settings with a controller in either hand and a flashlight to illuminate your path,” Fireproof explains. “Employ your hand’s finesse to solve tactile puzzles, conjure spells and even summon restless spirits to guide them to the afterlife.”
Fireproof’s The Room series has been an absolute delight, blending ingeniously tactile brainteasers with captivatingly dark atmospheres – and the studio’s most recent game, 2020’s The Room VR: A Dark Matter, was a standout highlight. Thus, I am genuinely excited to see how Ghost Town unfolds.
