It’s been nearly a year since Saber Interactive last provided an update on its long-awaited and reportedly troubled Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake. However, in spite of the ongoing silence, the team asserts, “Everything that we have discussed is still in production.”

The remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was first revealed for PlayStation 5 and PC back in 2021, being developed by Aspyr. Since then, however, the project has faced ongoing rumors of issues behind the scenes, with a report in 2022 stating it was “in serious trouble” and “indefinitely postponed.”

Shortly after that report, it was announced that Saber Interactive, developer of Warhammer 40K: Space Marine, had taken over development duties, but still, no updates on the project have surfaced since its initial announcement. Further reports of its potential demise emerged in 2023 – although these were quickly dismissed – and the project’s future was once again called into question last year when Saber Interactive parted ways with parent company Embracer Group.

Saber’s most recent statements regarding KOTOR came last April, when CEO Matthew Karch declared that the remake was “alive and well” – yet, with nearly a year of silence since that remark, apprehensions have started to circulate among the fan community once more. This brings us to the latest comments, reaffirming that the KOTOR remake is still under development.

In light of this week’s announcement that Saber is moving forward with Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 3, studio chief creative officer Tim Willits took to social media to reassure fans that its other announced titles remain unaffected. “Saber Interactive is among the largest independent developers globally,” Willits stated. “We are actively developing multiple games across various genres. Everything we have discussed is still in progress. We will share updates on upcoming titles when we have something exciting to announce.”

This, then, is a positive sign for the elusive KOTOR remake, but it’s not the only intriguing project confirmed to be in development at Saber. The studio is also working on John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando and Jurassic Park Survival, both slated for release this year, alongside new Turok and Avatar: The Last Airbender games also in development.

As for the recently announced Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 3, it appears to be rolling out smoothly.
