Microsoft has announced today that its AI Copilot initiative will be available for video games in the near future – with Xbox Insiders receiving “an early look on mobile soon”.
Copilot for Gaming, as it’s being described, is an “AI-powered companion designed to be your customized gaming ally, helping you reach your favorite games quicker, guiding you to enhance your abilities, and connecting you more effectively with your friends and communities”. The team has utilized Minecraft and Age of Empires IV as examples of how Xbox Copilot can assist gamers:
It appears that Xbox Copilot isn’t merely focused on aiding players progress through games, but also facilitates the initial configuration of systems as well. In addition to these game-related examples — and the launch of this feature on the mobile app for Xbox Insiders — Microsoft has showcased how the tool can help gamers find and set up games.
While we’re still determining how valuable this type of feature would be for us here at PX HQ, Xbox head Phil Spencer has already been promoting the release — stating that he’s “looking forward to Xbox Insiders trying out Copilot for Gaming on mobile very soon”.
Combined with last month’s reveal of ‘Muse AI’ to support more on the game development side, it’s clear that Microsoft is fully committed to AI in gaming. We will need to observe how this all unfolds — and what it implies for Xbox — in the months ahead.
