From family-friendly selections to thrilling fantasy journeys and crime dramas, we have curated six must-see films and TV series for your weekend viewing.

One of the most significant streaming debuts of the week (or, perhaps more accurately, the month) is The Electric State, which is currently available on Netflix featuring Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt collaborating with the Russo brothers (Avengers: Endgame). While new films are released in theaters, major stars like Captain America: Brave New World‘s Anthony Mackie and Oscar nominee Colman Domingo appear in this big-budget venture that promises to set records for the streaming platform.

This is not the only title attracting significant star power in 2025, as streaming sensations like Max’s season 3 of The White Lotus, Hulu’s audacious Paradise, and Apple TV Plus’ enigmatic Severance season 2 are among the audience’s favorite picks. With only two months and two weeks left in the year, it’s reasonable to expect even more films and new television shows on the horizon to add to your watchlist in the upcoming months.

For now, we have narrowed down the best newly released movies and television shows from each major streaming service, so you’ll be well-informed about the best series to binge-watch and the finest films to check out.

This year, one of Netflix’s major releases has become accessible for streaming, making it likely that you’ve found your perfect pick for this weekend. Based on Simon Stålenhag’s graphic novel, the movie is set in an alternate version of the ’90s after a catastrophic robotic war in America. The story follows Michelle (played by Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown), a young girl on a mission to find her brother, aided by a smuggler (Chris Pratt) and his witty sidekick. The cast also includes Ke Huy Quan, Stanley Tucci, Giancarlo Esposito, and Jason Alexander, along with vocal performances from Woody Harrelson, Anthony Mackie, Brian Cox, Jenny Slate, Alan Tudyk, Hank Azaria, and Colman Domingo.

This eagerly awaited sequel to the beloved Moana, which premiered in 2016, brings back the titular heroine for another exhilarating, thrilling, and family-friendly adventure. Although Lin-Manuel Miranda’s absence in the music department is felt, you can still look forward to the stunning animation and charming characters.

Moana 2 follows Moana (voiced by Auli’i Cravalho), Maui (voiced by Dwayne Johnson), and a fresh crew of not-so-experienced sailors on a journey to the vast oceans of Oceania, taking them to perilous, long-forgotten waters.

Searching for something unexpected? If your answer is affirmative, then The Parenting is precisely what you need – a wild horror-comedy featuring some accomplished acting legends that offers a twist on the haunted house trope.

The story revolves around a young couple (played by Nik Dodani and Brandon Flynn) who have arranged a perfect weekend retreat in the countryside to introduce their parents to one another. However, tensions rise from the outset, and it certainly doesn’t help that the house is haunted by a 400-year-old poltergeist. As you might guess, strange events begin to occur, and the parents (played by Brian Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Edie Falco, and Dean Norris) seem to be the ones most affected by the malevolent spirit.

With The Odyssey currently in production, we’re revisiting one of Christopher Nolan’s finest films as it has just been added to Hulu’s library. While it may not have had the cultural impact of Interstellar and the award-winning success of Oppenheimer, The Prestige is a brilliant film that deserves our attention.

Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman portray two 19th-century magicians who enter a fierce rivalry after an illusion…

goes terribly foul. Engaged in a contest for dominance in their profession, the duo will stop at nothing to claim victory, with their rivalry leading to dreadful outcomes and devastation.

The series centers on two lifelong friends and petty criminals from Philadelphia who find themselves in over their heads with their latest scheme.
