Former Disco Elysium Team Members Join Forces to Create Exciting Spiritual Successor at Longdue
Longdue, an intriguing studio formed by former Disco Elysium developers, has unveiled a teaser trailer for its unique project and revealed that key alumni from Disco Elysium are involved.
The innovative “psychogeographic RPG,” titled Hopetown, will initiate a Kickstarter campaign on March 17th, at which point more details will be revealed.
Until then, check out the initial teaser trailer, featuring character artwork and an engaging voiceover that hints at the psychological impacts of the narrative.
Lenval Brown, who provided the voice for the narrator in Disco Elysium, will reprise his role for Hopetown and portray a key character.
“It feels wonderful to return – to embark on something fresh,” said Brown. “There’s nothing quite like breathing life into a world, crafting a narrative that’s been waiting to be expressed.”
Additionally, Martin Luiga – a founding member of the ZA/UM Cultural Association who contributed to the creation of Disco Elysium – has also joined Longdue’s team.
“I am excited to share my knowledge with Longdue to help them develop the narrative and systems for Hopetown, building on the strengths that the narrative RPG genre has established and attempting to innovate upon them to deliver a rich story grounded in what has been, what is, and what could be,” said Luiga. “I believe the team can create a significant addition to the canon of Western RPGs. I encourage fans of the RPG and adventure genre to support the Hopetown Kickstarter to help us realize this game.”
Longdue’s team also includes Piotr Sobolewski from the Disco Elysium crew, although as Polygon mentioned earlier this month, his association with the game is limited – Sobolewski is credited for providing “additional development” from the outsourcing studio The Knights of Solidarity.
The addition of Brown and Luiga thus strengthens the connections to ZA/UM’s project. It was initially announced back in October of last year, with more details on its mechanics provided this past January.
However, it coincides with several other projects from former Disco Elysium developers, with each announcement seemingly arriving at a similar time (notably, the games were first revealed on the fifth anniversary of Disco Elysium).
ZA/UM, the original Disco Elysium studio, has recently announced its new game, titled C4, which merges dice-rolling gameplay with elements of psychedelic sci-fi and espionage thriller. However, many original team members who worked on Disco Elysium have since departed the studio.
Then there is the new UK-based studio Gloomy Math Games, developing XXX Nightshift, formed by a “breakaway group from the original Disco Elysium development team,” which was announced in October.
Shortly after that announcement, Summer Everlasting emerged as a new studio by Argo Tuulik, who co-created Disco Elysium’s worldbuilding.
