Lady Gaga humorously commented on the reaction to Joker: Folie à Deux during her SNL opening monologue, including the film’s numerous Razzie nominations.
“Anyway, I’m now a performer. I’ve been quite careful about picking projects that can highlight my skills as a serious actress, films like Joker 2,” she remarked during her appearance on the comedy sketch show. “Apparently, folks thought it was impressive.”
Gaga portrayed Lee Quinzel in the movie, offering a fresh take on Harley Quinn. “Joaquin and I also received a Razzie nomination, which recognizes the worst films of the year,” she added. “We won for worst screen duo. But the joke’s on them. I enjoy winning things! And my Razzie brings me one step closer to an EGORT. It’s similar to an EGOT, but a bit painful.”
While 2019’s Joker had an impressive 11 Academy Award nominations and became the first R-rated film to surpass $1 billion at the box office, the sequel was received less favorably. Alongside the Worst Screen Combo accolade for Gaga and Arthur Fleck actor Joaquin Phoenix at this year’s Razzies, Gaga was also nominated for Worst Actress, and Joker 2 was up for Worst Screenplay and Worst Picture.
Looking ahead, Gaga is set to make a transition to the small screen, taking on a mysterious role in Wednesday season 2. “She’s remarkable, definitely one of the most gifted individuals I’ve ever collaborated with,” said Jenna Ortega, the show’s star, about working with her. “It was just a truly, truly unique experience to be there with her and Tim [Burton], both of whom I greatly respect and have been tremendously inspired by.”
Wednesday season 2 is on its way.
