Welevel Secures $5.7 Million in Funding to Elevate Indie Game Development

The studio plans to utilize funding to enhance its proprietary AI platform and the development of its forthcoming AAA sandbox survival game.

The Munich-based independent developer Welevel has secured $5.7 million in a funding round led by Bitkraft Ventures.

The studio stated that it will also use the funds to enhance the development of its in-house AI platform, and to double its core team in readiness for its anticipated AAA sandbox survival title.

This unnamed project has been in development since 2021 and is scheduled to launch in early access in 2026.

Additional investors include BMWK and Goodwater, along with angel investors such as Chris Carvalho (board member at Roblox), Daniel Weinand (co-founder of Shopify), Heiko Hubertz (founder of Bigpoint), Kun Gao (co-founder of Crunchyroll), Nate Mitchell (co-founder of Oculus), Ralf Reichert (co-founder of ESL), and Mario Götze.

“AAA production requires a significant amount of resources and funding that indie game studios typically lack,” said Christian Heimerl, CEO of Welevel.
