Hey, good fortune on the horizon
Nintendo has been remarkably aggressive regarding Switch emulators, and for good reason: the company recently stated that the Switch 2 will likely be compatible with the vast majority of Switch games, so understandably, it does not want individuals accessing its established titles in various ways.
Consequently, emulation projects such as Yuzu and Ryujinx have been halted following legal actions from Nintendo, but now, a third initiative called NxEmu is making a comeback after a three-year break (thanks to RetroHandhelds). Furthermore, the developer known as ‘N3xoX1’ is approaching its revival with a keen focus on avoiding a Nintendo shutdown.
In a blog post, the developer mentions, “I’ve considered utilizing what I’ve learned and understood from my experience by modularizing the stable and legal components from Yuzu, such as the CPU, OS, and video.” Additionally, N3xoX1 points out that the issue with many emulators was their lack of decryption; an aspect they aim to avoid with NxEmu.
The blog entry also highlights that due to the nature of its development through modularization, it may take some time before NxEmu reaches feature parity with Yuzu at the time of its discontinuation.
It’s a bold undertaking, but we all understand Nintendo’s stance. If it perceives NxEmu as a potential threat to its copyright, chances are it will take action to halt its progress—especially with the launch of the Switch 2 on the horizon.
Whatever transpires, we will ensure to keep you informed.
